How to find a religion that suits me
How I did it: After my dad died when I was 12 (who was the only person with religious influence in my life) I did a lot of questioning. He was Bahai' and I found that I didn't quite fit with his beliefs. I went on searching through christianity, catholicism, protestantism, judaism, buddhism, paganism, atheism, agnosticism, and just about anything I could get my hands on! I identified myself as pagan for a while because it was the most broad term I could think of and I knew I believed in balance of yin/yang, male/female, etc. I knew I had eastern beliefs but Buddhism didn't quite fit because I believed that believing in God is an important part of achieving Nirvana unlike the Buddhists. Then I took a World Religions course last year and one of the religions we went over was Hinduism... quite broad.
Then we went to an ISKCON Hare Krishna temple and the energy I felt was uplifting and the connection I felt was incredible. I tried to learn as much as I could about it and after 6 months of my first exposure I began to slowly start practicing... and now it's been 6 months since then and I've been going to the temple weekly. Now I'm a new devotee and I love it. I feel so good now that I found a place where I feel I truly belong.
Lessons & tips: Just remember that religion is a style that helps YOU feel connected to God. Pray for God to help you find a community that helps you to feel connected to him/her/it... and be patient! It will come :)
