How to help my dog heal

"Mac launched himself out of a window and was trapped by the window latch. He sustained major leg injuries. He had an operation to repair his medial and posteria cruciate ligaments. "
How I did it: We had to take our time with Mac. He is an older dog and his operation happened in winter so swimming was not an option for leg strengthening.
He had physio done by us as instructed by the Vets. We gradually increased his walks and didn't allow him to run (very difficult with him) and no jumping up on beds and lounges..
He has healed well. No residual effects other than age catching up with him.
Lessons & tips: Be gentle and let him know that we are still the alpha.. He tried some techniques of his own to run and jump.
Lots of hugs and cuddles. It was winter so we needed to keep him extra warm.
