How I did it: Had a good realtor that kept looking for the kind of home I was looking for, not just what there was to sell. Finally the right one came along, and I patiently made my way through the escrow process. No point getting too anxious, but it would have been nice if there had been more transparency, i.e. I knew where things stood. But overall not too painful.
