How to expect less
"I learned to expect fewer favors from people, but now I'm learning to demand that people perform their jobs with minimum competence."
How I did it: I learned who I can depend on and who I can't. As a bonus, I became a better judge of character. Good friends and a loving partner are the luxuries that make life wonderful, and if you have friends and a lover, you're incredibly fortunate. But in the final analysis, you can really only depend on yourself. So the challenge is to become someone that you can depend upon.
Lessons & tips: Simply accept that people don't owe you anything other than minimum performance for the job they're being paid for. That's all I have any right to expect.
Resources: Nope. I don't know anything that will help you become self reliant. Maybe some therapy if you're really dependent.
