How to stop drinking soda
"It was one of the best things I could have done for myself"
How I did it: I spent a whole summer downing literally a liter or two of soda a day. It got to a point where I would throw tantrums until someone in the house would go buy more for me.
Dr. Pepper was my favorite.
I started noticing how moody I would become 2-3 hours after one of my soda binges. Not to mention my skin was breaking out like crazy. It killed my self-esteem.
Breaking my caffeine addiction started off as a dare between me and my brother. I'd go a day without soda. He'd go two without smoking. I'd pass up a Pepsi for an orange juice, he'd pick up a nicotine patch.
I started looking for alternatives and two of the best that I found were sparkling mineral water for the carbonation kick and Arizona Iced Tea to satisfy my sweet tooth.
It took a few attempts, but I was finally able to go a month without reaching for a can of dyed sugar. My drink of choice now? Chai tea with cinnamon!
Lessons & tips:
- Find a healthier alternative. Sparkling mineral water comes in tons of flavors and is just as bubbly.
- Have a friend to help you.
- Drink LOTS of water. It's amazing how much better you feel drinking water over soda.
