How to hike Mount Borah, Idaho.
How I did it: Got a group together...just about died on the hike up. It took a VERY long time and I wanted to quit often. But I am so glad I kept going. One person in our group made it 500 feet from the top before stopping. So sad. IT IS STEEP. The descent is pretty tough too. It is hard on your knees. If you make it to Chicken Out Ridge (rightly named) and you are not afraid of heights...for the love of Pete! Keep going! You are almost there!
Lessons & tips: I brought WAY too much stuff and it weighed me down. It's so hard to hike with extra pounds in your pack. Good shoes are a must! Just keep going. Go with a group that is "equal" to your abilities. I didn't want to slow people down, (which I did) but I wanted to go slow and steady. If I tried to keep their pace, I would have had to turn back. But a couple friends of mine kept me going, and I eventually made it!
Resources: I have heard that asprin helps with combating altitude sickness. I took asprin and felt fine after I got passed the tree line. It is still a killer of a hike, especially the last 500 ft., but the sight is well worth it!
