Saraband is trying to get back more often
This sounds ...
.. like a great thing to do: something you will both get a lot out of.
Good luck :)
How I did it: I attended a meeting at work (movie studio) to get information about a new volunteer program which included a variety of activities with kids from elementary to high school. A great opportunity presented itself: Mentor a high school student from Oct.2009-June2010 with mandatory meetings every two weeks and our choice of one-on-one outings on off weeks. I instantly decided that "This is perfect for me." That's why I chose to say it took me 1 day to do this. I had been wanting to get into volunteering (especially by helping kids), but I really never put myself into that situation. So it was 1 day, the day, that I stopped thinking and started doing. I chose the one activity that requires the most commitment and I am so glad I did just that. I've met so many co-workers which I would have never met since this is such a huge place with tons of people. I've met some incredible kids with different stories and talents. I've also began enjoying the new opportunities that have come from being part of a handful of employees that took the challenge to mentor a teen.
Lessons & tips: If you want to volunteer, just do it.

That is a great story & very inspirational!
It makes me motivated to stop procrastinating and volunteer soon. Congrats!

Thanks Annette.
Hope you find a great volunteer opportunity.
You have lots to offer, especially with your experience in restaurants and different foods.
Continued success.
Alex.
