How to get a job
How I did it: Two weeks ago I was hired by Target at a job fair they held.
I've been working with The Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) for a few years and a job coach for about a year, who offered me help because of my problems with depression/anxiety that got in my way of finding employment for myself.
It was nearly a year since I began seeing the job coach, and DORS wasn't really offering much help anymore, so I was beginning to lose faith in them. It seemed all they ever had me do was search the classifieds and fill out applications. But finally they recommended the job fair to me, and I went, not expecting anything, and was shocked when I was hired on the spot!
I'm on my second weeks of work now, and things are going well. This is just a seasonal position, so come January I might be out of a job again, depending on if they want to keep me. But I am just overjoyed at the moment, though at the same time very stressed out. This will be great experience for me, since this is my second job ever, and my first one in six years.
Lessons & tips: Fill out applications everywhere, check the classifieds, talk to people you know. All you can do is keep at it until you persevere, even though you'll probably be turned down at a lot of places before you do.
