How to french kiss

How I did it: I had gone on one date with this guy and we were sitting on my couch watching a movie... He says "Can I kiss you?" For some reason, it didn't occur to me that he meant "french kiss" even though we were both in our twenties. I was expecting a little peck on the lips... I got tongue action.
It was actually kind of gross. Too much spit involved. Of course, he was monumentally better at it than my next kiss. People say if you kiss someone you really like, you'll like it. Maybe that's the problem- I guess I never have.
Lessons & tips: I'm sure kissing someone you actually like or feel some degree of attraction toward would help.
