How to find a new apartment
How I did it: I mostly looked in the newspaper, as rental Web sites are largely out-of-date, or want you to sign up for their services before they'll provide you any information.
Lessons & tips: Don't settle for something you're not happy with, but don't over-spend. Also, don't bother trying to contact rental offices or landlords by phone or e-mail if you can help it: they usually don't return messages. Go meet them instead.
Resources: The biggest resource is other people who can help you look: motivate you to go out and look at places to live. Your friends and family can help get out off the couch and finding the place you want to live instead of the sty you're in now. Use them.
