"I learned how to lose weight from the free book The Hacker's Diet, and then just worked my butt off to do it."
How I did it:
One day I realized that I was pretty overweight, and I was kind of tired of it. I weighed 208 lbs. I searched on the Internet to see what I would have to do to lose weight. When I learned that it would realistically take hours of exercise to lose even one pound, I kind of gave up on the idea.
However, while searching the Internet, I found an online book called "The Hacker's Diet" by John Walker, the creator of the famous software program AutoCAD, and a self-made millionaire. Soon I realized that it was different than everything I had read up to that time.
In it, Walker states that one day he was reflecting on his great success in life and thought it somewhat silly that in spite of having accomplished so much professionally, he was still overweight. So, he decided to use the problem-solving skills he had gained as an engineer and as a manager to figure out why he was overweight and carry out a solution. He ended up successful and recorded what he learned in that book, which is available f
or free at http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/www/hackdiet.html.I loved the book because I could tell it wasn't a bunch of fluff--from the beginning it rang true to me, unlike most of the other things I had heard before about weight loss (though I hadn't thought about the issue much before this point). In the book, Walker sets forth a plan to lose weight by cutting calories and quantifying your progress along the way.
I decided to put his plan into practice, and eventually got down to where I am now, about 150 pounds. It took a lot of discipline and finding other things to do besides overeating, but I did it.
If you want to lose weight too, check out the book and try to apply what you learn as best you can. You will need to have a relatively accurate scale, but it is SO worth the expense.
If you like to learn things that are sometimes complex, I encourage you to read this book and figure out what I did. It took me about 6 months in all, but I achieved my goal and I have actually changed my life. Making that change has helped me see that I can do pretty much anything I put my mind to.
In order to accomplish this goal, you will have to develop some new habits, but I have discovered that improving yourself and gaining new habits is what life is all about anyway! If you are determined to reach your goal, you CAN and WILL reach it!
