"Peaceful and cherishing memories..."
How I did it: Like many people, I was disillusioned by the fantastical things that Japan has to offer...but mostly when I was younger. Outrageous clothing and funky, weird things all around you.
Well, now that I visit Japan several weeks, sometimes months, out of the year, I've found out several things:
1. Tokyo isn't that great. It's ugly, though it does have SOME interesting architecture.
2. Okinawa is where it's at.
3. Yes, they still do have cute, weird things...
Okinawa is SO beautiful, so calming. I find myself at peace there. I love that for a whole month when I stayed there, i could just walk a bit out and go swim at the beach. I could drive for a while and go through hills and curves and get lost where the crops were, or the dam, or near the castle. It's so great. And if you're scuba licensed, you'll have a blast. (too bad I wasn't.)
PS- The only reason why it took my so long was 'cause I've wanted to go since I was 13, forgot about it a couple of years...and then ended up being involved with someone from home who moved to Japan.
Lessons & tips: The locals are friendly and quiet here...but be cautious, too, 'cause
history runs deep. You might get jipped here and there without knowing.
They might be friendly to your face, but not to your wallet. heheh, I
don't really mind though, 'cause I understand that to some Japanese, we
(I'm American) seem like intruders. On a side note, this is not everywhere and for the most part, Japanese people are really nice.
Resources: Money, getting my tickets several months ahead, having my significant other live in Japan/be Japanese/speak Japanese
