How to backup regularly
How I did it: It was easy - I have a Mac, so I set up Time Machine and used a Maxtor/Seagate One Touch drive, and once I set it up it worked perfectly. I just set up which folders I wanted backed up (basically anything under my user directory) and plug it in. I also do simple things like back up things online via an online wiki (WetPaint) where necessary, too.
It's now second nature to back up, and I have peace of mind that things don't get lost. Once you integrate this as part of your life as a knowledge worker - 'back up at least once a month' - it becomes doable.
Lessons & tips: Set your computer up to do it automatically or to prompt you to do it - Time Machine is great at that.
Also getting a sexy little backup drive makes you want to do it. The Lacie Lego Bricks are also a great example of it.
