How to spend a summer working abroad

How I did it: Got a J1 Visa and spent summer of '09 in Santa Barbara, CA. Got a job at UCSB as a residential assistant but also completed a really useful internship with a social media company.
Lessons & tips: Don't travel with Usit! Don't just hang out with people from your home country, get out there and meet others.
