How to find an apartment
How I did it: I looked through every resource I had available - two or three newspapers, a weekly classifieds newspaper, and craigslist as often as possible. I made a list of possible apartments to go over with my boyfriend, and then I called the apartments.
We actually got lucky. By the time we were in a position to actually get an apartment (We had started looking a month before, and then a little bit before then... but we realized quickly we had started looking a bit too early =P) it only took us less than a week to find an apartment we liked, and signed the lease.
Going to pick up the keys tomorrow!
Lessons & tips: - Start apartment search 2-3 weeks before you need to really start looking (about 6 or 7 weeks before you move out). This will help you get an idea of what the market is like and what prices you will be seeing.
- At the 4 week mark, it's all business!
Resources: - craiglist
- local newspapers
