How to stop smoking
"Choosing to be a non-smoker empowered me and forced me to acknowledge other habits in my life that are preventing me from being healthy and fit."
How I did it: It took me 1 day to achieve this goal. I say this because as soon as you make the decision to stop permanently; 1) you are instantly a non-smoker, 2) you body begins the process of healing and restoring itself, 3) you begin to face the challenges of interacting socially, having a drink/cup of coffee, getting up in the morning, passing time and dealing with stress without a cigarette. You begin to realize how dependent you were on smoking and with Alan Carr's 'Easy Way to Stop Smoking' book under your arm you'll begin to enjoy the process of ridding yourself of this dependency.
I did it by:
1. Changing my attitude towards smoking. I educated myself on the facts - smoking was a dangerous activity, I was filling my lungs with poison on a daily basis and increasing my risk of dying a painful and early death. By smoking I was harming those around me and encouraging my partner's addiction (not a very loving act).
2. Changing my relationship to smoking. I was truthful with myself. I realized that I had been dependent on cigarettes for getting me through social interactions,meeting new people, filling time etc... this made me realize that quitting smoking was going to be the easy part of this journey.
It's only been 3 weeks now, I'm proud of myself and my partner, we've tried before but this time we're actually doing it.
Lessons & tips: Think of yourself as a non-smoker, and claim that title as an achievement.
If you believe you want a cigarette, try to ride it out, the feeling will pass.
Excercise
Notice the improved circulation and enjoy your new healthy glow.
Calculate the money you're saving each week by not smoking. Put it into a savings account or buy yourself a wee gift.
