How to have a yard sale
How I did it: Actually, I didn't do it! During a week, I moved all sorts of stuff (rocking chair, computer desk, bags of clothes, and boxes of toys to name a few) over to my Dad's house, in preperation of a yard sale my sister was planning to have over there. Me and my kids, after moving all this "stuff", went to my Dads and priced everything. The next day, we were going ot hold the yard sale.
However, we had to cancel due to rain.
So a week later, during my working Saturday, my sister decided to hold the yard sale, and put our stuff in. We made $186, and my son made $20 and my daughter $30! My sister came to get my kids so they could help out, but personally I did nothing to help.
I am thankful to my sister (although she sold a winter coat my son never wore for $3 that had cost me $70), and so happy to have made a little room in my house!
In all a positive experience. Whatever didn't sell we'll try again in the Spring.
Lessons & tips: Prepare. Mark prices on your stuff early. During the sale, there will be enough running around, you don't need to be pricing at the same time.
And pick a nice day. That's the hardest part in Vermont....
