How to try EMDR and see if it works

Comments:

My counselor

uses this as one of her therapy tools. She wanted to try it with me because of how long I was holding onto deep grief over a past miscarriage, and also a situation from my teen years. I never did, mainly because I had so many other pressing issues (this was mid-divorce), but I’ve always been curious about it.

Interesting to know that it worked for you!

Living In God's Exquisite, Miraculous Sufficiency God bless your 2012! This is my year of JUBILEE!!!

Agree w/Tiisi

I have used EMDR for quite some time when I had some really bad traumas (not willing to share publically) that I could not fix myself nor could it be done through regular talking counseling.

The EMDR was very effective. What could have taken me years to recover from, I think it was 2-3 months of weekly visits. My insurance covered most of it that time, but when I had other trauma, like my 2nd divorce, I paid for the EMDR out of my pocket totally.

It is not cheap, but definitely well worth it. It greatly reduces the time to heal, and with every single session, I could feel a shift in my feelings and thoughts. They were becoming more rational, instead of so steeped in emotional chaos.

I now can recount all the trauma incidents without any emotional pain. It’s really freed me from emotional hell.

I really could use EMDR right now for some other things as well as my children, but I will have to wait until my budget allows me to do so.

I am fortunate enough

to have insurance. Though my copays are $40, so that is a bit prohibitive in and of itself. :-/ I had an urgent care visit this month for my broken bone, a regularly scheduled annual checkup (plumbing, bloodwork, and prescriptions), and one counseling appointment – bingo, $120!! Which is better than not having insurance at all, but sure makes you reluctant to make an appointment…!

Hmmm, so two 43Ters have found it useful. I will definitely have to keep that in mind!

I paid for it out-of-pocket

and it was definitely worth the investment. It’s astonishing to be able to recall the triggering events now without being sent into hell. This is one of the smartest things I’ve ever done for myself.

Tiisi will never share entries outside 43T & asks the same. has gotten 38 cheers on this entry.
