How to be financially independent - increase my savings to $5000
How I did it: By using a combination of curbing my compulsive spending (when upset or in pain), and being a little more thrifty, I was able to put away a little from each salary payment. I was frustrated a few times when large bills ate my entire salary, but the continuing interest on my savings account helped. Having a savings buffer, I now feel much less stressed, worried and more secure.
Lessons & tips: Don't give in to the compulsive spending habit! When you want to spend, check the balances in your savings account.
