How to renew my passport
How I did it: After someone had broken into our car and snatched my bag, that incidentally also held my passport I had to wait to return from Australia to go to the German authorities.
There was a nice little line up, I had to bring my overpriced passport photos and Birth Certificate and of course, money. Dad came along for moral support and we made a day of it, - there was ice cream involved.
After waiting for 20 minutes it was already my turn. They gave me a little receipt after paying for the passport and my ID card and I had to come back in 6 weeks. No trouble whatsoever.
Lessons & tips: Never leave a bag containing your passport in a car.
... Don't worry about waiting in line, it is absolutely worth it.
