How to adopt a cat or dog from an animal shelter
How I did it: I found a local shelter run by a very kind woman that dedicates all her time to taking care of kitties that noone wants. It took me over an hour to decide as there were so many. Then I saw a little calico in a cage against the wall, looking very sad. So, she is the one I picked. It is very funny that now she is a totally different cat. She is very happy and attacks and plays all the time...and eats everything in the house.lol.. Her name is (Ferris) Mewler. I also rescued an abused dog named Willie that I prayed for for over 2 years. He is the BEST doggie ever. He is a perfect match for me. And he is a lap snuggly doggie, so that is great. I am crazy about him! He is mostly Terrier. I have him in clothes now. lol... At the kitty shelter, I made friends with the lady that runs it, so I made a new friend too. :) Plus, I am going to start volunteering there in my spare time.
Lessons & tips: Only get your pets from a shelter. They are wonderful, usually have all their shots and it will make you feel so good inside. Pet stores usually are supplied by cruel puppy mills. Make sure you have the time and resources to care for an animal before you adopt it. Be sure to pick one that has a personality that matches your needs. Such as if you are a quiet person that lays low or such, you do not want a wild and loud animal that tears up your house...Actually, you don't want one of those anyway. lol
Resources: The Humane Society is wonderful.
