Carla Everything Is Not Yet Lost
YUMMY!!!
that picture just made me hungry!!
How I did it: Check out this picture. That is my actual roast duck!
First I had to find a place that sold duck -- bigger grocery stores have them with the turkeys and geese and stuff. I learned that you could also buy quail at grocery stores during this experience! Next you have to find a recipe you want to use. Then you defrost the thing in your fridge, then you cook it with the recipe. Then you rip it apart with a friend :-) mmm!
Lessons & tips: There are lots of recipes ranging from the very difficult to the very easy. The one I used was this: defrost, rub with salt, roast. Yes, it ended up cooking unevenly, which is something the harder recipes claim to avoid, but I didn't care. I just ate the done parts (legs, wings, back) and cooked the rest a little longer! Mmm it was so crispy and good.
Also, note that it takes a while to defrost fully in the fridge, Give it like 2 days, or 3 days even.
I found out that duck is really fatty, as in even though the duck looks big, lots of it is layers of fat that are easily removed but not edible. You can render the duck fat if you feel fancy. I didn't, I threw it out. Maybe next time :-) It's supposed to be a great substitute for lard.
