How to complete 200hr yoga teacher training
"Learning to teach yoga stretched me physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. "
How I did it: I've been doing viniyoga for the past 3 or 4 years. The studio that I attend offers teacher training, and that seemed like a logical next step.
I like to learn new things, AND it's good for my brain! I look back at what I thought I knew, 10 months ago ... and I did not know then that I had so much to learn.
When I started the training, I was not sure that I wanted to teach. Now that the training is over, I am convinced that yoga has so much to offer people that I want to coach others to feel better in their bodies and more at peace with themselves.
Lessons & tips:
- Yoga is NOT a competitive sport. Don't injure yourself doing the postures.
- Yoga IS about getting to clarity of mind.
- Remember to breathe.
- Remember to feel length in your spine. This helps so much in practically every posture.
- If you are in a teacher training program, stay caught up on whatever homework you may be given.
Resources:
- Whole Life Yoga in Seattle.
- Yoga for Wellness, by Gary Kraftsow.
- Yoga for Transformation, also by Gary Kraftsow.
- Mat, blocks, blanket (for use as knee padding and to sit on when needed). I started out thinking that props were for sissies, but now see the benefit in being kind to my body and use props when I need to, without embarrassment..
