Congrats to you! I’m still working on a 5k!
How to run a half marathon
"totally awesome - didn't feel like 21km"
How I did it: 1) start small. When I started I couldn't even do 1km without gasping for air. I ran 3 times a week sometimes 5 times a week during my 'intense' period.
2) join races. The first week I started running, I registered for 4 races. All 10ks. Training for them helped with the overall training for a hlf marathon.
3) run! it's the only thing you have to do to get better.
4) I didn't run for 4 weeks before my half-marathon due to runner's knees but went ahead and finished it anyways! Try to be sensible about your running plans - don't overtrain. You won't die from lack of training except that you wouln't enjoy it either. But overtraining results to runner's knees and various other injuries.
Lessons & tips: 1) don't overtrain. 3 times a week is enough. 4 times a week is good.
2) get proper shoes. it will help you in the long run.
3) if you couldn;t run alone, running with a friend would boost your motivation. I am a solo runner though I enjoy running in a place where lots of runners run.
