How to take a photo every day
"It ended up being a great project filled with reminders of the little things I did and saw all year."
How I did it: My twin and I decided to do it together, from one birthday (Sept 6, 08 to Sept 6, 09). I think it helped to have someone I could count on to help keep me motivated. We could ask each other, "did you get your photo up today?"
We set some pretty solid rules before we started, like that the picture not only had to be taken on the stated date, but that it had to be posted online the same day. This made it a little harder, but the challenge was fun since there were a couple of late night, "oh no! 5 minutes to deadline!" races. I did find it a lot harder to keep motivated towards the end, and things were so busy over the summer that I missed a lot of days, but I'm not going to be too hard on myself for some missed photos.
Lessons & tips:
- Set your goal and any "rules" before you start
- Have a friend or someone else join you in the project. It's a lot of fun to be able to compare photos and share in the process.
- Have fun with it, realize that not every photo has to be an amazing photo, sometimes a snapshot is the perfect thing to capture the feel of the day.
- On a more practical note, if you're taking digital photos, be sure to start an image naming system at the begining. I named each image with it's date to make it really easy to look back through them and keep them organized.
Resources: Find an online blog host to hold your daily images. I used Aminus3 as my hosting site and that worked well.
Know where a camera repair shop is (I had a little problem with that!) and a one hour photo place (in case you feel like taking a film photo and need to get it developed that day)
