How I did it: I found an illustrator online, and worked with him via the web to illustrate my book. I originally used AuthorHouse.com as a POD publisher, but they turned out to be a huge costly mistake. I ended up using CreateSpace.com and the experience was much better. I formatted my own pages, and submitted the book. Pricing was very reasonable for Print-On-Demand.
Lessons & tips: Be patient. The process, from illustration to printing is very tedious. The knowledge I gained will make the next book much easier.
