How I did it: I got married. I couldn't keep my dishes clean on my own--I'd reuse the dirty dishes and let them all pile up, or I'd wash them when I needed them. It doesn't take living with a neat-freak to get in the habit of washing them, either. Sometimes I do it because I'm bored, sometimes because I want to do something nice for my wife. Doing dishes for their own sake is a thankless exercise in futility: they never stay clean.

Lessons & tips: Get some nice headphones, download some interesting Podcasts where someone's speaking (audiobooks, iTunes U), and use the time to zone out while standing in place, doing a repetitive task.
