How to do NaNoWriMo 2009
"The most fun you can have by yourself."
How I did it: I set a goal for myself of 2,000 words per day and simply made hitting that goal a focus. To win at NaNoWriMo you actually need to write slightly less than that per day but if you aim for more you will offset those days when you just can't get started or can't manage more than a few hundred words because your characters aren't cooperating.
Lessons & tips: Write every day. Write even if you think what you just wrote is horrible. Just keep moving forward and be mindful of the goal: to finish a first draft. You can, and should, go back and edit later.
