How I did it: It's hard to spend more time with family when you don't live with them, but I feel realizing that makes it more special when we do get the chance to be together. Just realizing how special they are really motivated me to make a better effort.
Lessons & tips: Do things that matter and spend quality time. You don't have to spend a lot of money or go on big vacations. Just devote all of your attention to them as much as you can.
Resources: Postcards and phone calls kept us together in between visits.

for the reminder that money isn’t the barrier—attention is. Quality time with people is really important, and you’re right, cards & calls let people know you’re thinking about them. I live on another continent than my family, so feeling like our lives are still connected takes effort.
