How I did it: dug up a area in my back yard and planted sage, oregano, boxwood basil, lavender, and rosemary!  yum!  actually, i am planning to add even more herbs to the family!   

Lessons & tips: its takes a small amount of time, not to mention the herbal aroma that fills your space!  and most importantly...no more hybrid herbs from the grocery store!
