How to to find a job
How I did it: I went to the library and made a resume. After doing that I went in the car and stopped at every place I saw in town with a now hiring sign and dropped off my resume along with taking an application. I also applied online to every major store in our town (Wal-Mart, KMart, Target, etc) because even if they did not have a sign applications are always accepted. I posted my resume on an online local hiring site which was free and I did this for two weeks relentlessly. I knew that if I let up for just one day or two days that I would loose my will and just give up in this job market and the financial safety of my family depended on my getting a job to help my husband. That drive alone is what made the work behind getting a job so easy to do. Simply because it was not just for me being 17 and needing spending money (not that that isnt a good reason to get a job) but because I have a 6 month old and an 18 month old to help look after. My family was my motivation to put it simply.
Lessons & tips: Be relentless. Do everything you can. Even if you are applying at Pizza Hut turn in a resume. Make a resume and print out about 20 copies if you can. Everyone fills out an application but a resume stands out.
Resources: Online applications make it easy to do things from home. With my kids it helped to be able to apply online. Also, the welfare program in PA has a welfare to work program that pays you cash assistance in return for going to a workshop from mon - fri 10am - 3pm. It is almost a 100% chance you will get a job. So check with local welfare programs that help in finding jobs.
