How to have a baby
How I did it: It was merely a matter of falling in love with the 'right' person (in this case a biological, fertile male), stopping the pill, and waiting to see what would happen. It was a bit of a shock when we found out we were pregnant, especially for me having waited so long.
Pregnancy was easy physically, but ante- and post-natally emotionally it was very difficult, and circumstances made it worse. It turned out my fiance was not so committed to me after all, and we have since separated. However we do remain committed to being friends and being good parents, which is the next best thing to actually being together, I suppose.
I don't know what the future will bring, but I have a beautiful little boy to share my life with... at least until he is old enough to go off on his own.
Lessons & tips: Be sure. Be really, really sure that this is what you want. It will be harder than you think. And if you can, wait until you are stable, and stable in your relationship. The responsibility could otherwise be more than you can handle.
Resources: Other mothers, especially those who, like me, have suffered ante- and post-natal depression were a great help.
