How to wwoof
"Exhilirating, exhausting, transformational, fun"
How I did it: I sent out some e-mails prior to leaving for my backpacking trip to SE Asia, and only ended up getting one serious response. Luckily for me, it was from a farm in northern Thailand owned by a guy from the U.S.! I jumped on the opportunity, told him I would e-mail him when I had a better idea of when I would be up north since I was arriving in Bangkok, and then set out.
A few weeks into my journey, I finally made it up there along with two other travelers I recruited along the way. In total there were five of us working at the farm. The days consisted of hard manual labor, stuff that really makes you think about what you want to do with your life. The nights were spent cooking dinner, playing guitar, talks about life, and sometimes reggae bars :) I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would love to return some day...
Lessons & tips: Plan ahead, but don't worry too much. If you don't find anything exciting before you leave, just ask around when you get there and other travelers will be bound to recommend good farms.
