itching
the itching is called Cholinergic urticaria… I have it too! It definitely gets worse in the colder months and makes running very uncomfortable. Congrats on pushing through it and meeting your goal :)
How I did it: I've been starting to run regularly for the first time since PE in school (6-7yrs ago). For a while I couldn't run for more than a few minutes without having to stop because my legs would begin to itch severely. I decided to start couch 2 5k so I could work up to running slowly -- it appears my body is adapting with me and the itchiness is subsiding! I'm 2 weeks into the program and my legs didn't itch AT ALL during this 9min mile. In short: starting out slowly and working up gradually is how I did this.
Lessons & tips: Work up to running slowly with walking/running intervals and rest days inbetween so you don't burn out.
Resources: I'm following the couch 2 5k program using the iphone app 'get running'. I'm currently 2 weeks in. Also, for running the mile I used a free iphone app called runkeeper. It uses GPS to measure how far i've run and how many minutes per mile I'm doing so I know whether I've got to speed up to reach my goal or not.
