How to make new friends
"It is cliche, but people really do drop in and out of our lives. The moments when they are there though can make a huge difference. Just go along with ride as far as you can and another person will hop in again soon. "
How I did it: I forgot about this goal when I left 43 things. Over the course of not visiting, I had many people come in and out of my life. People who I ended up having some deep connections with. It just sort of happened. Common interest or hobby, volunteer project, work, and a couple times randomly chatting with internet strangers who happened to live nearby. Distance did make things tougher for some these friendships. I'm not sure where all of these new found relationships will turn out in the future, but they're here now. Appreciate them while they're here.
Lessons & tips:
- Common interests and hobbies make it so much easier to make friends.
- If you make friends with people while traveling, just sending a few messages here and there when you're back home can keep a friendship alive. A visit once in awhile doesn't hurt either.
- If you're meeting a friend you've made online, be sure it's a public place.
