How to develop my talents
"I had talents I had never explored or paid much attention to. I'm glad I did this!"
How I did it:
- I made lists of things I wanted to try. I tried them one by one until I could identify what I was good at and what I wasn't. Cooking curry is NOT my thing.
- I read "Spiraling Inward" which is a book solely about developing your creativity - which helps identify your talents.
- I did things I was afraid of - like picking up a spider and putting it outside. I took a walk at night around the neighborhood. I found I could face fear. I consider that a talent. Fear used to overwhelm me.
Lessons & tips:
- Be willing to try new things, silly things, stupid things.
- If you're a guy - sew or bead something. If you're a woman - find a sports team you can follow and go to the games. Maybe you'll learn you're good at mending a hem or starting a little league team - but you never know unless you try.
- Tell fear to kick rocks.
- Go dancing, paint something, write your own cartoon, buy a computer graphics program - try anything that comes to mind.
Resources:
- Craft stores
- Martha Stewart (yes, really)
- Watching Emeril Green on cable (he teaches you how to cook organically)
- Spending time getting to know new people
