How to run a marathon
"Ran the Kentucky Derby Marathon in the spring [5:25] and Chicago in the Fall [5:05]. I think I've gotten the marathon bug out of me."
How I did it: The first marathon, I ran it using Grete Waitz's book, Run Your First Marathon. I don't think that book prepared me as well as I had hoped, but then again, I trained in the winter and the race was the first really hot day of the year. The weather worked against me.
For Chicago, I ran the FIRST plan and it worked out great. I knew my paces and ran it strongly.
Lessons & tips: Run consistently. Don't shortchange yourself on the long runs.
