How to go on a road trip with no predetermined destination
It made me 
"i went to japan out of the blue, just decided to go, so i grabbed some gear and left"
How I did it: cost a bit, but i got hooked up with business class for free, i made sure to buy a japanese-english book before i left and made sure i had my battery charger for the camera
Lessons & tips: not a whole lot of meat over there, if you're a hungry guy like me, you'll come back a few punds lighter (if you walked around as much as i did and stayed over a week there)
