How to toast Christmas with a cerveza under a palm tree
How I did it: First, you need a whole bunch of spare cash, as Christmas is high season in Mexico. Prices are high, but it's worth the kick.
Two ways to do it: buy an all-inclusive or fly in and then get your own hotel and meals.
I went the 1st route, only because that was the most reasonable one considering the prices of direct flights at that time. The difference between non-stop flight ticket and all-inclusive cost was something like $500, so it made sense to do it that way.
Next time I go (probably late Feb) I'll go the second route. Normally, if you can fly there for $600, it's better to take the bus to Playa and stay at one of the hotels in the town (village?). Food is delicious and cheap, then access to the beach, even if you stay at 5th Ave, is just a few blocks.
And the beach is heavenly, the nightlife is vibrant (I've been told), tourists are everywhere - you'll be safe if you don't stick your nose into dark corners at night.
Highly recommended!
Hog out.
