LifeRenewed is blessed.....
Bless you....
You are a hero!
How I did it: Well now that Im all moved out NYC--Im back to living a life in Rural SC..its all sand and bare feet and the good life, and if you believe that I got a bridge to sell ya--HA
So this pack of 7 pups got dumped off near our home I called them the Timber Creek Pack (check out the blog I kept during the time I ws taking care of the Pack) cause I found them on TimberCreek Rd.....and I made it my business to find homes for all of them...I found homes for 5 and I adopted the last 2 myself. Annie and Flossie--
I love them dearly!! And during the time they appeared in my life my Mom broke a hip and was in the hosptial..I was at the end of my emotional rope and I yelled OUT TO GOD--WHY??? and the answer hit me right then....why not?? You asked for this--- I had forgotten that!!
At first I didnt want the responsibility of 7 dogs!! who would in their right mind..but they needed help--they were starving---somebody had to help them...I called every rescue group, emailed every shelter, begged for help from every direction...and in the end I realized the best chance these dogs had at surviving this ordeal was ME!
So I stepped up to the plate---I was fired from my job and had no income living on my savings...yet I took on the care and feeding of 7 abandoned puppies, 4 males 3 females , all needed food, medical care and love.
In the end I realized it had to be ME who saved them..no one was going to rescue me I had to do it...So I fixed up a spot in our old barn for the puppies to stay...the old barn has no roof it fell in long ago..so I found barrels and such to make it as cozy as possible. This was October of 2008--
Lessons & tips: Once I made the final decision I would take on the responsibility of the puppies I reached out to my family for finanacial help and they came through.
So I started taking the puppies in for their shots and it was costing me upwards of $40 per puppy to get shots and wormings done...and they ate 8 cans of dog food each day along with 2 quarts of dry food.
I ran an ad in the paper announcing Puppies to good homes---and the calls poured in...I found homes for 4 puppies right away (the males) but then disaster struck...the last 3 puppies got sick and I couldnt adopt out sick puppies so they went to the vet.
He told me they had parvo and I could put them down or try to save them. He told me it was contagious and then I worried about the ones already adotped...but I had made the decision that my responsibility had been handed over to the new owners and I would do what I could to save these last 3 the females.
This is little Daisy Mae she was so sick she could barely hold her head up....
Resources: SInce I had been a paramedic in another life (NYC) I could handle a couple of sick pups---couldnt I? He gave me IV solution with antibiotics in it, and a spare bag of Ringers to administer to these pups 3 times a day...so 3 pups 3 times a day got an IV under the skin...we set up a make shift infirmary in the kitchen..and they were really good patients...and I did that for over 2 weeks it was touch and go with these girls..I brought them in the house and put them on electric blanket and they were so sick they never moved...but finally they began to improve...and little by little they began to eat again and by January they were up playing with each other...and ready for adoption...well by this time they were nearly 6 months old...but my X John found a home for Daisy Mae, and I made the decision to keep
Now they are a big part of our family as I write this they are both sleeping by my feet!! They are happy and healthy and very good girlz!!!
