How to be in an art show
How I did it: I had been working on various drawings for years before I had the guts to let anyone see them. It was serendipity at its best... I just happened to bring in some drawings to see if anyone thought they were any good. The next thing I learned was that one of the people at the art group (they taught various classes) was actually a juror who decided who gets in and who doesn't. Unprompted, I was given an invitation to show. Wow. Then the next problem was that I didn't have enough pieces still in my possession (I tend to give them away to people who like them) so I spent the next week creating enough stuff to be able to stock the display booth I was allocated. Amazing!
Lessons & tips: Simply to practice. It sounds trite, but that is really the only way to make what you feel you want to produce to the standards you yourself set. Some of the more recent works have been shown on 43T http://www.43things.com/people/progress/tknight/5560271
Resources: The people, places and animals I have encountered through the years have been a terrific resource. So has the enjoyment of various digital cameras to aid my eye in seeing what I do. Last, I credit Staedtler karat aquarell pencils!
