How to learn cpr
"Great class, fun people, good knowledge. Can't wait to get out there, get vomited on, break some cartilage, and shock people with an AED (kidding)."
How I did it: I took a class at work as part of our emergency response team training. My knowledge is now good for two years.
We did practical training on CPR dummies for both CPR and AED training. We also had lots of stories and real life knowledge imparted to us by our instructor (great guy, funny too). We took a final written test that really just cements what you gain in the four hours.
Sign up for one and go do it. It's actually a lot of fun.
Lessons & tips:
- Try to the best of your ability to imagine what it is really going to be like. Get into the mental frame of mind but still be able to laugh and joke.
- Make all the mistakes you can while doing the practice
- Ask ask ASK questions
- Make sure you walk away from your four hours knowing everything you could want
- Be empowered and hope you never have to use it
Resources: Wanna see what it really looks like?
Note: compression rhythm is a little more accelerated then this in today's practice (100 per min). Also, when you see what looks like initial breathing, tounge moving around etc., that is just nervous reflex now that the heart has been restarted.
