How to use my polaroid camera to document my last year here
How I did it: Fourth of July, two years ago I found a polaroid camera on ebay for $7, so I bought it with the intention of working on my Take More Photos goal. Polaroid film was in decline however, and I realized that I had two deadlines coming up. It was my last year before college, and around then is when polaroid film would be firmly discontinued as well. So I took pictures of all the events and moments I wanted to remember, I'm so glad I did. I moved across the country for college, and with all the challenges to my identify, it's nice to be able to go back to all those people and places, and be reassured of the person I am outside of art school, and work. There are so many details I would've forgotten as well, and so many things I wouldn't have appreciated nearly as much. It was a good way of slowing down years that seemed to escape me faster that I could than I could really live them. I suppose that's the beauty of polaroid, and everything really, transience. It's a great way of coming to terms with it, and coping with it; to smile at it. To wait for the flash and gather around the moment as you watch it appear instantly in the physical world. There's a certainty to the tangible, that I never understood, having grown up in the digital age.
Lessons & tips: Polaroid is making a comeback actually! Check out the impossible project and the new polaroid camera that's coming out this year if you're interested! I also suggest getting supplies from ebay. Much cheaper.
Resources: Polaroid! :D And walmart before the film was discontinued.
