How to make my own dog treats
How I did it: I decided that I wanted to do at least try this after purchasing several doggy training treats and snacks, and spending way too much money on these items. I enjoy cooking a fair amount, and figured that it would be relatively easy to put my skills to use for my dog too. First, I checked out a dog treat recipe book from the library and browsed through the recipes to find some ingredients that I had on hand that my dog would enjoy. I ended up making the cheddar biscuits, with some modifications (replaced whole wheat flour with rolled oats because it's what I had at the time). I started by only making half a batch, in case the dogs didn't like them. They smelled great (and yes, I even tasted one) and were super-easy to bake.
Lessons & tips: Do a little research on what dogs can or can not actually eat. Some of the recipes in the book I used called for garlic powder, but I learned from volunteering at the SPCA animal hospital that garlic powder is not good for dogs.
