How to be in a house.
How I did it: This was a bit of a bitch. After my divorce, I had to claim bankruptcy. I claimed chapter 13 which meant I made payments for three years, effectively postponing the discharge for that long. Then, in order to buy the house, I had to be free of the discharge for two years. I had no money to put down, but am a veteran so I had that. I also wanted to be sure to qualify for the tax credit and wasn't sure if they were going to renew it. Well, they did and ... I now own a house as of yesterday. I move in today.
Lessons & tips: Perseverance. If you can pay rent, you can probably afford a house. My mortgage payment, along with the taxes and interest, is $85.00 a month LESS than what I was paying for rent. I just had to get it done. The house is not huge. It is not pretty. But it has potential and I really look forward to the years ahead!
