How to write a mission statement
"Find a process, follow it."
How I did it: I stopped and thought about why I was backsliding so much on some of my simpler goals, ones that really only required a little self-discipline.
I decided that the mission statement I adopted for now should identify the reason for my seeking those goals and be a mantra in times of weakness.
I looked up a few websites which all recommended writing something then leaving it alone for a few day before revisiting and finalising.
This seems to have worked well, because although I had some strong ideas and a good product ready in a bout ten minutes, the changes I have made to it a few days later have definitely resulted in a stronger adherence to my core reasons for completing this task.
All in all I am very happy with the outcome.
"At all times I will maintain optimal health and wellness habits to improve the quality of my life, to extend the quantity of my life and to reward my wife, my family and myself."
Next thing is to really memorise the statement and use it as a meditative theme when I am wavering.
Lessons & tips: Think carefully about why you want a mission statement and what you hope to achieve by writing one. Define those aspects clearly in your mind and then the first draft will fly out.
Definitely re-visit a few days later before deciding you are finished.
