How to get a promotion
How I did it: As cliche as it sounds, I did everything possible to make myself indispensable to my company.
Last year I was chosen as one of four super users to implement a new booking engine at our company. I spent an enormous amount of time, most evenings and weekends, over an 8 month period at work. In the end, I was exhausted, but had become a necessary part of our company.
Earlier this year, when one of my coworkers was out of work for a few months, I stepped in to help her guests even though I had little to no knowledge about her destinations. I kept a smile on my face, told them I didn't know the answer and promised to find it and get back to them.
As I said before, I did whatever I could to become indespensible. I wanted to be the person that was diverse enough to make it through any cuts or layoffs and I think I'm getting there. :)
Lessons & tips: It takes time to prove yourself, but be patient and it'll happen.
