How I did it: The bookshelf is 6' by 6' and it was double-stacked on every shelf, and there were three document boxes on the floor in front of it. I had hundreds of pounds of textbooks and such. Piles of papers and notebooks were everywhere. It took over half the room, and looked awful!

I went through all the pleasure-reading books and sent bunches of them to troops abroad through the 'Operation Paperback' organization.

I went through all the old school stuff and threw away papers I would never need again (class notes that I've already used to make study guides, duplicates, handouts without answers included, etc.) Three trash bags of hard work, thrown away.

Cleaning out the bookshelf was much easier after I found out I passed the Bar Exam because once I knew I didn't have to take it again, I could get rid of all the Bar Study Books (three document boxes full) and all the old textbooks I might have used for the Bar (four document boxes). We gave books away to friends and sold them used on Amazon.com.

I saved the practice guides, the textbooks for areas of law I might practice, and my study guides and outlines.

There is so much room on the bookshelf that it fits all my books, looks better, and even has room for other things - like attractive black and white patterned boxes holding my crochet project and my correspondence. The floor around it is all clear!
