How to learn to program
"Sometimes all I can see and think about is the code - I love it."
How I did it: I started learning BASIC & Pascal in high school of course, but then got into HyperTalk to make HyperCard stacks with, more and more AppleScripting, and then some LISP-like language parsers and a stack-based FORTH-like language. Then came Java and C and Objective C... and yet now I still can't get a job doing what I love!! :( I may have to get a "Will code for food" sign.
Lessons & tips: Try to stay cutting edge. Books are usually old by the time they hit the shelves.
Resources: I just printed out glossaries of terms and made my own notes in the margins. Reuse code whenever it applies!
