How to pickle something
How I did it: I was at the farmer's market and they had nice, cheap pickling cukes so I got 5 lbs, went to the hardware store and bought the mason jars then headed home. I realized I still needed some spices and white vinegar, so I went out later and got that stuff. I mixed up my own pickling spice and then made the 'brine' (used the puter to find ideas on spice mixtures, etc,). Added the washed cukes to the jars, poured in the brine, and sealed the jars in a pot of boiling water. It is easier than you would think. In a week I tried them...they tasted awesome!
Lessons & tips: there are lots of ways to do this..even though i sealed the jars using boiling water, i still kept my jars in the fridge in case I sealed them wrong. I also made my own picking spice because if you buy a premade packet of it, chances are there are preservatives and artifical coloring, and I wanted all natural pickles.
